DirecTV ShotLink Channel

The PGA TOUR and DirecTV have formed a partnership that is taking PGA TOUR fans at home further inside the ropes with exclusive features and enhanced coverage of PGA TOUR events. The ShotLink Channel was designed for the fan who wants to go well beyond the traditional broadcast experience for a data-rich analysis of the game that includes both video and data simultaneously.

The ShotLink system is a revolutionary platform for collecting and disseminating scoring and statistical data on every shot by every player in real-time. The vision of the system is to: “Turn data into information, information into knowledge, and knowledge into entertainment.”

The Premise of the Channel
The goal of the ShotLink Channel is to leverage our scoring platform and create a new and innovative way to provide viewers with a 2nd screen experience with the goal of providing compelling statistical information for every player and every shot in real-time with the telecast.

Challenges
Departure from Traditional Golf Telecast: We created an intelligent interface that provides the production crew with the most effective system for producing compelling graphics for every player and every shot in real-time. To accomplish this we leveraged wealth of statistical data (600+ stats) provided by the ShotLink system. We then applied logic to our interface to produce nearly 50 fully interfaced graphics all based on the distance and location information provided in real-time by the system.

Utilizing the system to drive compelling stories with real-time location and distance driven data:
Example: Matt Kuchar is on the tee on the 17th hole at Muirfield Village:

Here’s one option of what we can tell you about this shot in real-time:
